Barangay Ginebra Eyes Troy Rosario as They Prepare for PBA Semifinals

Barangay Ginebra has set its sights on acquiring high-caliber forward Troy Rosario, who recently became an unrestricted free agent. Rosario’s name has been making waves since his contract with Blackwater expired, sparking rumors of his potential move to Ginebra for the PBA playoffs. However, due to the timing of his release, Rosario will not be able to join the team for the semifinals.

According to PBA rules, teams must submit their final 15-man roster before the playoffs begin. Ginebra attempted to acquire Rosario before the playoffs, but Blackwater’s appeal delayed the process, ultimately preventing his inclusion in the lineup. As a result, Coach Tim Cone activated Jod Vance to fill in the gap in the frontcourt.

Though Rosario cannot participate in the current PBA semifinals, Ginebra remains the frontrunner to sign him for the upcoming conference. San Miguel Beermen are also in the running, but Rosario seems to favor joining Ginebra, where his presence would bolster their frontcourt, especially as the team faces challenges with aging players like Japeth Aguilar.

Coach Tim Cone is focused on preparing his team for the semifinals, having swept Meralco Bolts in the quarterfinal series. With plenty of rest before their next matchup, Cone and his coaching staff have been scouting potential opponents, including San Miguel Beermen, who are currently competing in the East Asia Super League. Cone’s meticulous preparation aims to ensure Ginebra is ready for whichever team they face in the semifinals.

While Rosario’s contribution will have to wait until the next conference, his potential arrival is seen as a key move for Ginebra’s future. Many fans are already debating whether acquiring Rosario is the right move, given he won’t be available for the playoffs. However, his presence in practices would help smooth the transition and reduce the adjustment period for the Commissioner’s Cup.

As Ginebra prepares for a tough semifinal challenge, Coach Tim Cone remains determined to lead his team to victory, all while keeping an eye on the bigger picture—strengthening the roster for future championships with the potential addition of Troy Rosario.
