Kyle Negrito seeks to move beyond Jia De Guzman shadow after Best Setter win

Kyle Negrito was one of the first to take a hit when challenges came Creamline’s way in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

She was often compared to Jia De Guzman, the Cool Smashers’ main setter before she went to Japan to join Denso Airybees in the V.League.

De Guzman was one of a kind, having won the PVL Best Setter award a record eight times.

However, Negrito, despite all the criticisms, chose to shine above the noise, and now she has successfully led Creamline to back-to-back championships in the PVL.

After the Cool Smashers defeated Choco Mucho on Sunday for the franchise’s eighth crown, Negrito declared that she may not be De Guzman, but it’s alright.

Her priority remains to deliver what the coaching staff expect of her.

To top her spectacular performance for the second consecutive season, she also accepted her first-ever Best Setter award in the PVL.

Negrito thanked all the supporters of Creamline who stuck with them despite the challenges that hit the team throughout the conference.
