Michele Gumabao, Miss Universe Philippines 2018 and Miss Universe Philippines runner-up, will be on the Philippine women’s volleyball team attending the upcoming 32nd SEA Games.

Michele Gumabao, born in 1992, is 1m77 tall, has a harmonious face and a healthy body. She is a famous beauty in the Philippines. Gumabao won the title of 2nd runner-up of the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 contest.
Previously, in 2018, she became Miss Globe Philippines and represented the country at Miss Globe 2018. At the contest, she entered the top 15 finalists, winning two subsidiary awards including Miss Social Media and Dream Girl.

Currently, the beauty plays for the Creamline Cool Smashers volleyball team in the Philippine national championship, and has experience as a coach. During his playing career of more than 10 years, Michele Gumabao won many important individual titles of Philippine volleyball such as best attacker, best blocker, best player… In early 2022, Michele suddenly announced his retirement from playing to focus on his political career.
During her time away from sports, she took on various roles such as commentator, MC, and TV actress. In 2023, she announced her return to competition and was called up to the Philippine national team to participate in the 32nd SEA Games.

As an athlete participating in beauty pageants, Michele has faced criticism for her strong legs, which do not fit the criteria of beauty pageants. Regarding this issue, she said: “Transforming from a professional volleyball player to competing in beauty pageants, I was mercilessly criticized for my muscular and large legs. My legs were too big, they said so.
Honestly, instead of feeling insecure, I see those comments as a battle of choice. I remind myself, these legs have helped me fight for many years in intense volleyball matches, helping me jump, play and win.”

She also sent words of encouragement to women who are victims of body shaming: “Instead of constantly comparing yourself to others and being influenced by the comments around you, choose to love yourself and be more confident. I will tell those who don’t love me that, no matter how much they hate me, they will never understand, it is these muscles that make champions.”
