Creamline fends off Galeries to take win No. 3

MANILA, Philippines — Creamline survived the brave stand of Galeries Tower, 27-25, 26-28, 29-27, 25-19, to claim its third straight win in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 Reinforced Conference on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

Creamline kept its cool despite the willful Galeries that forced extended sets in the first three frames.

Erica Staunton fired 29 markers on 25 attacks, three blocks, and an ace to lead the Cool Smashers prevail in two hours, and 32 minutes of action.

In the fourth frame, Galeries Chuewulim Sutadta powered a crosscourt kill to respond to Michelle Gumabao’s hit and trail closer against Creamline, 19-18.

But Staunton scored from the backrow, and Bernadette Pons made an ace to give Creamline the advantage, 21-18.

Risa Sato guarded the net well and deflected Sutadta’s attempt twice to widen the gap, 23-18.

Pons slammed a loaded kill to give the Cool Smashers the match point advantage, 24-18

The Galeries scored a point as Gumabao committed a net touch error, 24-19.

The Highrisers called for a challenge for a net touch violation from Creamline, but it was a costly call since upon review the Galeries was the one who made a net touch error, allowing the challenge to be in favor of the Cool Smashers, 25-19.

Creamline now holds a 3-1 win-loss card, while the Galeries is still winless.
