Philippines Volleyball Team Clinches Bronze at Southeast Asian V League; Gia de Guzman Departs Creamline Cool Smashers
The Philippines men’s volleyball team, affectionately known as “Alas Pilipinas,” celebrated a significant achievement by securing the bronze medal at the 2024 Southeast Asian V League. They clinched this victory in a hard-fought match against Indonesia, marking their first medal in the Southeast Asian V League since 2019.
This triumph was made possible by the stellar performances of key players. Eya Laure contributed significantly with 13 points, while Jessa Rondina impressed in her debut tournament. Additionally, Aliza Solomon, the reigning best opposite spiker, led the team with 16 points, further cementing her reputation as one of the best in the league.
Amidst the celebrations, there’s bittersweet news for fans of the Creamline Cool Smashers. Gia de Guzman, who was recently named the best setter of the Southeast Asian V League, will not be returning to the team post-tournament. Instead, she will continue her career in Japan, playing for Denso Bea. Her departure is a significant loss for Creamline, given her pivotal role in the team’s success.
Despite this, the Philippines volleyball team remains resolute in their pursuit of excellence. The bronze medal win, coupled with De Guzman’s individual accolades, highlights the strength, talent, and determination of Filipino athletes.
