BREAKING NEWS: FORMER BRGY GINEBRA STAR PLAYER CHRISTIAN STANDHARDINGER ADMITTED THAT HE IS GETTING OLD & NEAR FROM RETIREMENT…

Christian Standhardinger retires from Gilas Pilipinas

CHRISTIAN Standhardinger feels right at home at Terrafirma after being shipped from Barangay Ginebra in a megadeal prior to the 49th season of the PBA.

And he has a positive attitude to the move as he plans to do everything to help Terrafirma win games and repeat its impressive performance in the Philippine Cup where it reached the quarterfinals for only the second time in franchise history.

“It’s professional basketball,” said the 35-year-old Standhardinger, when asked about being traded from Barangay Ginebra to Terrafirma, during the PBA Media Day. “We all know that. It’s not my first trade. This is my fourth team now.

“This is what professional basketball is all about and just trying to find a new goal and understanding yourself, finding a new goal… how you can affect winning for the team and how you can support your new teammates. That’s what I’ve done. We look solid.”

The Juami Tiongson – Christian Standhardinger duo for Terrafirma will pose problems for opposing teams.

The PBA Media Day on Monday was Standhardinger’s first public appearance since being the trade where he already wore the green Terrafirma jersey during the event.

“Obviously, there is a certain different of the level of expectations but I think all of us just want to affect winning and create again or add to the winning culture that has already been created by them last year winning one game against San Miguel which was a huge upset. Just building on that and keeping it going,” said Standhardinger.

Standhardinger comes to Terrafirma after a three-year stint with Barangay Ginebra where he was once a Best Player of the Conference in 2023.

But Standhardinger said he is coming to the Dyip to become a role player, insisting that the major thing he wants to do is give their star player Juami Tiongson his touches.

“He is great,” said Standhardinger, referring to Tiongson. “He is a great teammate too. We struggled a little bit at the beginning of our practices because we were both overpassing to each other which is a good sign. You just want the other guy to get it but I told him already and I told everybody that it’s his team.”

“I don’t want to overstep. I’m at the end of my career a little bit. I’m getting old already… They are great basketball players and I kind of start deferring a little bit to them and see where they can bring us,” said Standhardinger.

Standhardinger said he was able to easily adjust to the system being ran by Terrafirma coach Johnedel Cardel.

“I think it’s very fast-paced. I think they have great spacing. Obviously, I have to adjust to the new system a lot. But I think it’s a good fit and I’m trying to do the best to be as efficient as possible within the system of this team,” said Standhardinger.
