Angels rout Crossovers, face Cool Smashers in PVL quarterfinals

MANILA, Philippines — Petro Gazz claimed the No. 6 seed after beating Chery Tiggo via sweep, 25-20, 25-16, 25-12, and will face Creamline in the knockout quarterfinal round in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 Reinforced Conference at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Thursday, Aug. 22.

The quarterfinal duel between the Angels (5-3) and the Cool Smashers (6-2) is a rematch of the 2019 Reinforced Conference finals where Petro Gazz prevailed.

Since then, Creamline has won six PVL championship and has become the powerhouse team of the league

“We are challengers, they are the queens,” Japanese head coach Koji Tsuzurabara told the press when asked about the quarterfinals match-up against the formidable Creamline squad.
They will collide on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

On Thursday, the Petro Gazz dynamic duo of Wilma Salas and Brooke Van Sickle led the Angels with 21 and 12 points, respectively.

Despite falling at the bottom half of the standings in Pool B, the two-time Reinforced Conference champions rose from the grave and clinched a quarterfinal berth after three consecutive wins.

On the other hand, Chery Tiggo (5-3) was led by Khat Bell, who scored eight points.
