MANILA (UPDATED) – Alas Pilipinas head coach Jorge Souza de Brito said some players from Creamline, which has just won the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino title, were invited to represent the Philippines in the AVC Challenge Cup for Women on May 22 to 29 but they declined.

The Brazilian coach revealed this during the announcement of the national volleyball teams’ new moniker on Wednesday in Mandaluyong City.

Only Jia de Guzman, who now plays for Denso Airybees in Japan V.League but was originally with Creamline, accepted the duty.

“The players from Creamline, they are invited. But two of them, they already scheduled something. It’s not that [they weren’t included], they are invited but they denied,” De Brito said.

“They cannot [join] now but maybe in the future,” the tactician went on.

According to a reputable source, Creamline is set to celebrate their recent championships in Spain scheduled at the same time as the tourney.

The players from Creamline who were invited were former PVL MVPs Tots Carlos and Jema Galanza.

Meanwhile, De Brito also said they requested four players from the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, back-to-back silver medalists in the PVL, but only two accepted the job.

“The Choco Mucho players, they are there. We requested for four but we have two and it’s good,” De Brito said.

Choco Mucho star spiker and former PVL MVP Sisi Rondina and middle blocker Cherry Nunag will don national colors alongside fellow PVL aces Vanie Gandler, Dawn Catindig, Cherry Nunag, Dell Palomata, Fifi Sharma, Jen Nierva, Faith Nisperos, alongside UAAP standouts Angel Canino, Julia Coronel, Thea Gagate, Casiey Dongallo, and recently-crowned 86 champions Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon.
