A new era begins for Chery Tiggo as it appoints champion head coach Norman Miguel to call the shots for the 2024-25 PVL season.

National University’s former leader bared his desire to take on a new challenge in the pros in what will be a first in his already-decorated coaching career, with Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses set to take his place at NU.

And it was a move that began with a phone call from Chery Tiggo team manager Aaron Velez, a former head coach of the team himself.

“One time, tinawagan ako ni Coach Aaron. (Sabi ko), why not give it a try na this time, more challenging kasi pro league ‘to, ‘di ba?” said Miguel through the PVL’s official release.

“It’s about time na ma-test ko ‘yung skills ko, kung saan tayo aabot sa ganitong level and exploring na rin para sa career ko, how is it like coaching a professional team.

“Honored naman ako na tinawagan ako ng Chery and happy naman ako na this time, sa professional tournament, head coach naman ako kasi before, nasa coaching staff lang ako.”

Outgoing head coach Kungfu Reyes won’t be going anywhere as he’ll still be part of Miguel’s coaching staff concurrent to his UST Tigresses duties.

Roadblocks aplenty for Chery

Since winning the inaugural pro season of the PVL in 2021, Chery Tiggo struggled to get past the top four.

In eight PVL conferences since, the Crossovers finished fourth thrice, fifth twice and eighth thrice.

Part of two champion Lady Bulldogs teams, first as assistant in UAAP Season 85 and then as head coach in Season 86, Miguel looks to revive Chery Tiggo’s title-winning ways in a six-month-long 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference starting November.
