MANILA – Creamline star Bernadeth Pons was happy to see the her sacrifices turn into triumph.

She pioneered the Cool Smashers’ title run, claiming the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference’s top individual plum as well as the Finals MVP nod on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

But before those successes turn into reality, Pons had to overcome an injury and as expected for an athlete, she gave her best effort every training.

Pons also completed the daunting task of helping fill the shoes of star players Tots Carlos, Jema Galanza, and Alyssa Valdez, who were not able to play for Creamline this conference due to injuries.

And she felt fulfilled after capturing the championship, as she should.

“Sobrang fulfilling kasi alam ko eh, alam ko kung paano ako magtrabaho every day, kung paano ako mag-extra sa sarili ko rin para maging 100 percent ako sa team kasi ‘yung injury ko nga before,” Pons said after a 25-15, 25-23, 25-17 victory over the Akari Chargers.

“Sobrang saya na every day nakikita ko ‘yung progress ng ginagawa ko and sobrang thankful lang din talaga sa mga teammates ko na laging nandiyan para i-bring out yung best namin,” she went on.

After an opening day loss, Creamline regained its winning ways. They also almost fell in the semifinal round against Cignal, but the veteran squad showed poise as it clinched a Finals berth in comeback fashion.

Pons fired a game-high 19 points for Creamline to lead her crew to their ninth overall crowd, extending their dynastic reign in the country’s premier volleyball league.

“Sobrang happy kasi hindi madali, hindi madali ‘yung conference na ito. Sobrang pahirapan din talaga bawat game pero sobrang tinrabaho namin every day sa training pa lang. Sobrang ginusto namin na makuha itong championship na ito,” Pons said.

This was their first Reinforced Conference crown in six years.
