MANILA – Creamline is bracing for tougher challenges in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

For the first time since the 2018 Open Conference, the defending champions have incurred more than one loss in the elimination round, and captain Alyssa Valdez acknowledged that they have to look for their identity as threats to their dynastic reign in the flourishing volleyball league emerge.

“We’re very, very happy. I think more than the win, it’s more of a… ayun ni-remind din kami nila coach kanina na we have to find ourselves in this game also and in this conference,” Valdez told reporters Saturday after dumping Nxled, 25-22, 25-12, 25-20, at the PhilSports Arena.

Valdez said they are ramping up their confidence and are “finding who they are.”

“We’re slowly building that confidence and finding who we are back again,” she went on.

Their seventh win in nine games put them in a better position in the tourney, but still, they are two wins away from an assured postseason berth.

The Cool Smashers, currently with a 7-2 win-loss card, are set to battle current first-seed Choco Mucho and semis-seeking PLDT  both still in the fight to advance to the next round.

Valdez knows that their next games are pivotal to their 2024 All-Filipino campaign and a loss might cost them their tournament life.

“I think that’s [finding ourselves] the most important thing, most especially medyo interesting and exciting games ‘yung mga next games namin so kailangan naming makita ‘yung mga sarili namin and ‘yung confidence, so ‘yun,” the Creamline skipper said.

“Since we’re a veteran team so more than just the skills, it’s more of really playing it all out there no matter kung sinong kalaban so we’re very, very happy that we’re slowly, gradually finding ourselves,” Valdez said further.
