Wilma Salas overcomes hand injury to lift Petro Gazz to sudden death

NEWLY crowned Best Foreign Player Wilma Salas showed her desire to keep Petro Gazz’s title hopes alive, playing through a hurting hand and inspired by her individual award in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference.

After struggling in Game One, where she had 18 points but had 30.6% attacking efficiency, Salas remembered what she does best, receiving the fruit of her hard work for consistently leading the Angels all throughout during the presentation of individual awards before the do-or-die Game Three.

“I feel happy. I feell comforted because this is a very big [award]. Inside, I feel very good and very strong because of this,” said the Cuban import.

Salas unleashed 23 points on a 52-percent attack rate leading the Angels to a crucial 15-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-12 victory over Creamline on Saturday at the Arena in San Juan City to live another day.

The 6-foot-2 spiker admitted that her hand was hurting and she could have scored more but she’s glad that her desire to fight for her team was worth it.

“I feel good. I think I have more opportunity for more points but okay, it’s good, no perfect. I feel pain in my hand, little pain,” she said. “But it’s okay, I feel good. Fighting. Creamline is a good team that’s why I played all out on the court.”

“It is not perfect. I need more timing but I think it’s good. The team, the coach and the girls helped me so much,” she added.

In less than 24 hours, PetroGazz and Creamline will clash in a rubber match at 4 p.m. at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City.

Salas vows to give her everything.

“Tomorrow is the last game, I’ll give my all for the win tomorrow,” Salas promised.
