Kurashiki to open PVL Invitationals defense vs Est Cola
The 2024 PVL Invitational Conference is ready to kick off with a bang on Wednesday as it will showcase an international battle between the two guest teams: Thailand’s Est Cola and the defending champions, Kurashiki Ablaze of Japan.
Representing Thailand, Est Cola will bring a youthful yet formidable squad to the court.
The team will feature Thailand’s Under-20 team, led by their rising star, 19-year-old setter Kanokporn Sangthong.
Known for her quick thinking and precise ball distribution, Sangthong will be a key player to watch as she orchestrates Est Cola’s offense.
Adding to the excitement, Est Cola boasts a star-studded coaching staff.
The team will be led by head coach Wanna Buakaew, with legendary Thai volleyball icon Pleumjit Thinkaow serving as one of the deputies.
On the other side, Kurashiki Ablaze, who are gearing up for its inaugural campaign in the newly-formed SV.League, are determined to defend their title.
The Ablaze will be led by the 2023 Invitationals MVP, Ohsima Kyoka.
Alongside Kyoka, ace libero Takahashi Kaoru will anchor the Ablaze’s defense.
Even before the semifinals of the ongoing Reinforced Conference, there were notable changes in the team lineup for the Invitational Conference.
Akari and PLDT have both declined the invitation to join the third conference of the season, citing injuries to key players.
In their absence, Farm Fresh will step in to take their place, while Creamline and Cignal complete the five-team cast.
The action on Wednesday will also feature the bronze medal match in the Reinforced Conference between sister teams Cignal and PLDT, with the first serve scheduled for 4 PM.
Both teams are eager to end their season on a high note, adding an extra layer of intensity to this sibling rivalry.
Capping off the day’s action will be the highly anticipated Reinforced Conference Final between Akari and Creamline at 6:00 PM.
