From Titan to Fairy: Maddie Madayag signs with SV.League’s Kurobe

Maddie Madayag is set to make her debut as an import in Japan’s SV.League.

The 5-foot-11 middle blocker from Choco Mucho in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) has signed with the Kurobe Aqua Fairies for the 2024-25 season, as announced on the team’s official website.

Madayag was recognized as the Best Middle Blocker during the PVL’s 2024 All-Filipino Conference. She also earned the same accolade at the 2023 VTV Cup in Vietnam.

“We’re incredibly proud of you, Maddie, for seizing this amazing opportunity in your career. Your Choco Mucho Flying Titans fam is with you every step of the way,” the team said in a statement.

“We can’t wait to welcome you back stronger than ever!”

Joining Madayag on the Aqua Fairies roster are German outside spiker Lena Stigrot and Dutch opposite hitter Iris Scholten.

A product of Ateneo de Manila University, Madayag will join other Filipinos in Japan’s top volleyball league, including Jaja Santiago of Osaka Marvelous and Jia De Guzman of Denso Airybees.

Meanwhile, Marck Espejo is also competing in Japan, playing for the Kubota Spears Osaka in the V.League.

Kurobe Aqua Fairies finished 11th in the previous V.League Division 1 2023-24 season with a 4-18 record.
