Myla Pablo delivered the clutch points down the stretch in the fifth set as Pocari Sweat remained unscathed in three games to take the solo lead in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.

The Lady Warriors squandered a 2-0 match lead but still emerged on top after a hard-fought, 25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 20-25, 15-11, win against the Power Smashers Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Pablo hammered three points in Pocari Sweat’s telling 7-2 closing run that highlighted its third win in as many outings.

“Ang ganda ng simula namin. Ang ganda ng communication namin, ang pattern defense namin. Yung palo, drop ball nakukuha namin. Pero pagdating ng third and fourth set nagbago,” said Pocari Sweat coach Rico De Guzman.

“Sinabi ko sa kanila, ‘Hanggang 15 lang (ang fifth set) so kailangan lang ibalik (ang nilaro) natin sa first and second set. Basahin ninyo ang ginagawa ng kalaban,’” he added.

The National University standout finished with 30 points, all coming off attacks, while Jeanette Panaga scored 15 points she collected from 11 spikes, two kill block and a pair of aces for the Lady Warriors.

Elaine Kasilag had 11 points while Cai Nepomuceno registered 10 markers for Pocari Sweat, which will take on Creamline next week.

The Lady Warrior went behind, 1-4, in the deciding frame and trailed the Power Smashers, 8-9. Pocari Sweat saw an opening when the Power Smashers committed a reception error that tied the set at 9.

Pablo sparked the closing run with back-to-back kills followed by a kill block and an easy hit at the net. Pablo put the Lady Warriors at match point with crosscourt kill.

The Power Smashers saved two match points but Regine Arocha surrendered the game when she overcooked her serve that ended the two-hour, six-minute duel.

Arocha and Dimdim Pacres registered 17 points apiece while Jovelyn Prado had 10 for the Power Smashers, who dropped 0-2 tied with University of the Philippines and BanKo-Perlas.
