Galanza seeks consistency with Valdez out

Creamline’s Jema Galanza had a standout performance on Thursday night, leading her team to a three-set victory over Cignal in the PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Galanza, who had a rough debut with only six points in the opening day win over Petro Gazz, rebounded with 13 points in the 25-16, 25-21, 25-15 win over the HD Spikers at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

As the 2019 PVL Open Conference MVP, Galanza used her first performance as motivation to improve. She aims to be more consistent in her play and work on her weaknesses during practices.

“That’s always been our goal, to be as consistent as possible and minimize errors, both individually and as a team,” said Galanza.

Galanza also plans to step up as a leader on the court, especially with team captain Alyssa Valdez currently out with a knee injury.

“Coach (Sherwin Meneses) told us that there’s nothing that needs to change, we just need to have the mindset to bring leadership to the court. I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself, I just need to enjoy and not let the absence of Ate Ly affect us,” said Galanza.

Despite Valdez being out, Galanza emphasized that her leadership is still present on the court through her encouragement and guidance.

“She’s always there, giving us guidance and advice on what we need to do. It doesn’t put a weight on us because her leadership is still present,” said Galanza.
