MANILA (UPDATED) — The Creamline Cool Smashers successfully clinched their eighth Premier Volleyball League (PVL) title.

Creamline closed out the 2024 All-Filipino Conference on Mother’s Day by defeating the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 20-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11 in Game 2 of their Finals series at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Leading the four-peat champions was Finals MVP Jema Galanza who finished with 20 points, all coming from attacks, but she deflected all the credit to her teammates.

“Yung laro kasi, nilaro namin. Hindi lang isa yung naglalaro or isa lang yung gumagawa, team kami nag laro kaya nakuha namin tong game na ‘to,” she said during the post-game presser.

“Alam naman namin na hindi madali, na hindi nila ibibgay agad-agad samin ‘to kaya umabot talaga ng five sets. Alam naman natin kung gaano rin talaga lumalaban yung Choco Mucho so kami, ano lang, naniwala lang din kami sa isa’t isa Gusto lang talaga namin makuha itong game na to,” she continued.

Also starring in their win were Bernadeth Pons who finished with 17 markers, Tots Carlos’ 16 points, and Pangs Panaga who had 13, while Kyle Negrito was also vital in their triumph as she tossed 23 of Creamline’s 26 excellent receptions.

After exchanging wins in the first four sets, the Cool Smashers put up a 5-2 start in the decider following back-to-back hits from Carlos.

A drop from Pons extended their lead to four, 6-2, but three straight hits which came from Sisi Rondina and Royse Tubino got Choco Mucho to within one.

Carlos answered with a strong hit to re-establish a two-point lead, but Tubino yet again cut the lead to one after she retaliated with her own attack.

The two squads were only distanced by one, 12-11, after an attack by Cherry Nunag, but another Pons hit put them up by two.

A block by Pons on Isa Molde put them at championship point, while a Bea De Leon drop finally ended the game.

Earlier, down by 2 sets to 1 after Nunag and Tubino took over in the third frame, the Cool Smashers built a 7-4 lead in the fourth following a five-to-one run which was capped by a service ace by De Leon.

Creamline’s lead increased to four, 16-12, after an attack by Galanza before the second technical timeout, and while an attack error by Galanza allowed Choco Mucho to tie the game at 18, Panaga and Carlos stepped up for the Cool Smashers.

Panaga’s drop a few plays after extended their lead to four, 22-18, while attacks from Carlos and Pons not only fended off the last-ditch effort by Rondina but also allowed Sherwin Meneses’ squad to send the game into a decider.

Meanwhile, leading Dante Alsinsunurin’s team were Rondina’s 31 markers and 10 excellent digs, Tubino’s 20 markers, Nunag’s 14, and Molde and Maddie Madayag who each had 10 points.

Unfortunately for Choco Mucho, the absorbed their second straight Finals defeat against Creamline as the Flying Titans also succumbed to Cool Smashers in the 2023 2nd All-Filipino conference.
