C-Stan says goodbye to Ginebra in heartfelt message
CHRISTIAN Standhardinger respects the decision of Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone to trade him to Terrafirma in an offseason trade heading to the PBA Season 49.
Ginebra pulled off a shocking trade on Saturday when it shipped Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle to Terrafirma in exchange of Stephen Holt and Isaac Go. The two teams also swiped draft picks with Ginebra now going up to No. 3 and Terrafirma dropping to No. 10.
Shortly after the trade, Cone explained that Standhardinger had already told management that he prefers to play in a different system and under a new coach last conference.
“I acknowledge Coach Tim’s decision to trade me and respect it. It’s part of the game, and I wish him and the team all the best moving forward,” wrote Standhardinger on his Instagram account.
Also in his farewell post, Standhardinger thanked the Barangay Ginebra fans for their support in his three-year stint with the team where he won two championships.
The 6-foot-8 Standhardinger also thanked San Miguel officials Ramon Ang and Alfrancis Chua for the opportunity to play with Barangay Ginebra.
“Being part of this team has been a truly unforgettable journey, and I’m grateful for every cheer, every chant, and every moment of encouragement,” said Standhardinger.
“To the fans, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your unwavering support has meant the world to me, and it has been an honor to play for you and represent the Ginebra colors,” he added.
On Ang and Chua, Standhardinger said: “Your trust and commitment have been invaluable, and I appreciate the opportunity to be part of such a prestigious organization. Thank you for putting together a team of high character and integrity.”
Standhardinger also thanked his teammates, saying it was an honor to play and compete with them over the years.
“We shared some amazing moments, including winning two championships, and I will always cherish those memories. I wish you all continued success and many more titles in the future,” wrote Standhardinger.
“Thank you all once again for the incredible journey. Here’s to new beginnings and continued success for Ginebra,” he closed.
The 35-year-old Standhardinger began playing with Ginebra in 2021 in another megatrade where he was sent by NorthPort in exchange of Greg Slaughter.
Standhardinger immediately win championships for the Kings, winning in the 2021 Governors’ Cup, and the 2023 Commissioner’s Cup.
