Alas Pilipinas climb back for another SEA V-League bronze

Alas Pilipinas rallied from a 1-2 set deficit to secure a dramatic five-set victory over Indonesia,  20-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-20, 15-10, on Sunday in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. T

his win not only earned them third place but also marked back-to-back bronze finishes in the 2024 Southeast Asian V-League.

The Filipinas, led by Jia De Guzman, showcased a strong comeback in the fifth set. De Guzman’s leadership was pivotal, spearheading a powerful offensive that dismantled the Indonesian defense.

Despite Indonesia’s initial 2-1 set advantage, De Guzman, along with Alyssa Solomon, Jema Galanza, Sisi Rondina, and Fifi Sharma, ignited a crucial 7-2 run that shifted the momentum in favor of Alas Pilipinas.

Junaida Santi kept the match competitive with a series of impressive cross-court attacks, closing the gap to just two points and keeping hope alive for the Indonesians.

However, Alas Pilipinas held firm, with key contributions from Solomon, Rondina, De Guzman, and Cherry Nunag.

They managed to maintain a 12-10 lead in the final set, despite intense pressure from their opponents.

Nunag played a decisive role, delivering a crucial block against Santi and capitalizing on a critical attack error by Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi, which set the Filipinas up for match point.

Solomon, who had been a standout performer throughout the game, clinched the victory with a precise down-the-line attack.

This result echoed the previous leg of the tournament, where Alas Pilipinas also lost their initial matches against Vietnam and Thailand but fought back to claim bronze.
