FROM one champion team to another, Creamline mentor Sherwin Meneses is set to be the new head coach of the National University Lady Bulldogs.

Meneses confirmed his new title-caliber role to SPIN.ph on Saturday, which will soon take effect after a few finishing touches and bar any late changes.

“Finalization na lang ang wine-wait ko (tapos) NU naman ang maglabas ng (confirmation) ng news na ‘yan,” the current Cool Smashers mentor said.

Eight years since the end of his four-season stint with the Adamson Lady Falcons, the 42-year-old champion coach will make his UAAP comeback with an NU side that has won two of the last three league titles.

Meneses also ventured in the men’s game as Arellano head coach where he scored a runner-up finish in Season 93.

He then became a deputy to former UAAP champion shot-caller Tai Bundit in Creamline in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) before taking over the head coaching role himself in 2022.

National team duties also rested in Meneses’ hands when Creamline was tapped as the de facto Philippine team in various competitions from 2022 to 2023.

The 42-year-old mentor would go on to win five PVL championships since, even with an often undermanned squad.

In the ongoing 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference sans MVP trio Alyssa Valdez, Tots Carlos and Jema Galanza, Creamline extended its longest active streak of playoff appearances at 15 conferences in succession since joining the PVL’s maiden edition in 2017.

A new yet golden challenge awaits Meneses back in the college ranks where he’ll take charge of the Lady Bulldogs’ back-to-back title hunt featuring Alas Pilipinas stars Alyssa Solomon, reigning UAAP MVP Bella Belen and Arah Panique.

As it stands, outgoing NU head coach Norman Miguel was replaced by now-interim mentor Karl Dimaculangan ahead of their 2024 VTV Cup stint in Vietnam later this month.

It remains unclear when Meneses will begin calling the shots for NU in the midst of Creamline’s Reinforced Conference campaign and possible Invitationals stint, should they reach the semifinals of the import-laden tilt.
