MANILA, Philippines — The Petro Gazz Angels proved to have stronger wings than the Choco Mucho Flying Titans after a straight-set win, 25-18, 25-21, 25-18, in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday.

After losing three consecutive games, the Angels finally saw the daylight after ending their first round of the conference with a win.

Petro Gazz (2-3), Choco Mucho (1-4), and ZUS (0-5) are the bottom three of Pool B, and will cross-match against the top three teams of Pool A which will be formally determined on Thursday, August 8.

Wilma Salas led the scoring for the Angels with 18 points, while Brooke Van Sickle added 17.

Petro Gazz had the upper hand in the third set after holding a seven-point advantage, 20-13, capped by Rem Palma’s ace.

Choco Mucho’s Royse Tubino hammered a crosscourt hit, but Maddie Madayag threw it away after committing a service error, 21-14.

The Flying Titans relied on Tubino’s loaded kill, and Petro Gazz’s error to slowly cut the lead, 21-16.

Ethan Arce sealed the net and fended off Dindin Santiago-Manabat’s attack, but Lut Malaluan committed an attack error, 22-16.

Tubino once more hammered a kill to not easily give the Angels the match-point advantage. However, her second attempt went outside, 24-17.

The Flying Titans put up a fight to save a match point, but Wilma Salas used a crafty off-speed hit to finish the game, 25-18.

Second-stringer Myla Pablo had more minutes in tonight’s match and gave justice to coach Koji Tsuzurabara’s call after hitting the double-digit mark with 11 points.

“We all got sick before the start of the conference, but we know that we can recover from it. We all told ourselves to bounce back better in our games, and that we should not be down since our fight is not yet over. Coach Koji always reminded us to smile,” Pablo told the press after the game.

Santiago-Manabat served as Choco Mucho’s top scorer with 13 points, as Greek import Zoi Faki was only limited to three points.

Choco Mucho only won over ZUS in the round one of Pool B.
