For someone who has averaged 4.72-11.7 three-pointers over the last three NBA seasons, Stephen Curry has been unable to maintain the same stat at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In a recent interview with ESPN journalist Brian Windhorst, however, the player highlighted that the missed shots should not discourage focusing on other things that can help his squad maintain their momentum. On the side, as Curry looks to improve his shooting, he can find comfort in the fact that his teammates, especially LeBron James, has his back.
During a Q&A session with the San Francisco Chronicle, Curry reflected on the first two shots, including a three-pointer, that he made during the early minutes of the game against Puerto Rico. When asked whether the same is a sign of his ‘signature flurries’ making a return, the 36-year-old stated that “You want to continue to be confident shooting the ball — I always am. I know a flurry is coming.” LeBron James, who has walking past as Curry made the remark, couldn’t help but chime in. Without stopping, the Lakers star simply turned his head and exclaimed “It sure is, goddamn it.”
Over the course of Team USA’s three recent games, Stephen Curry has averaged only 7.3 points, 3 rebounds and 2.7 assists. While his shooting skill from the field is the thing to witness on the NBA court, Curry has only managed to average 1.7-6.3 three-pointers till now. That is a success rate of only 26.3%. Things were no better when going up against South Sudan, since he only added 8 points to the overall score by going 2-6 with his three-pointers.
LeBron James, who has represented his country on the Olympic stage on three previous occasions, is fortunately not facing the same issue as his teammate. In his last three appearances, the player has averaged 14.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 7.3 assists. The same has been made possible by the player going 6-9.3 with his field goals, 0.3-2.3 with his three-pointers, and 2-2.7 with his free throws. Having observed the effort that Curry is putting through, the 39-year-old is assured that his teammate’s good days are just ahead of him.
When a star-studded roster was chosen to represent Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the world expected nothing less than brilliance. The reality has surpassed these lofty expectations in spectacular fashion. In recent days, we’ve witnessed a different player rising to the occasion, propelling the team’s relentless march toward victory. Kevin Durant, the seasoned Olympian, has dazzled with his leadership and skill, while the electrifying Anthony Edwards has delivered clutch performances that leave audiences breathless. Each moment of individual brilliance has been a crucial step toward securing the coveted fifth consecutive gold medal for the United States. It’s a dynamic display of talent that Stephen Curry is eager to see continue, setting a thrilling precedent for the future.
By recording a 104-83 win against Puerto Rico earlier today, Team USA has managed to secure a spot in the Quarter-Finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the aftermath of the matchup, the NBA’s All-Time three-pointer leader spoke to the Associated Press about their successful journey till now. With the ongoing Olympics series being the 36-year-old’s first, it would have been quite a sight for him to observe his teammates step up during crucial moments. In spite of his own difficulty in leaving a memorable mark, Curry wants the existing formula to stay consistent during his final stage.
