The PBA Governors Cup semifinals series between San Miguel Beermen and Converge FiberXers was a thrilling one, with both teams battling it out until the very end. In Game 5, the FiberXers were looking to complete a stunning upset, while the Beermen were determined to hold on to their title hopes.
The first quarter saw the FiberXers come out firing, with their import Justin Arrana scoring six points in the early minutes. The FiberXers led by seven points at one stage, but the Beermen were able to keep the game close.
In the second quarter, the Beermen began to claw their way back into the game. Junmar Fajardo was dominant in the paint, and the Beermen were able to tie the game at 42-42. However, the FiberXers responded with a run of their own, led by Alex Cabagnot.
The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading baskets. The Beermen were able to take a two-point lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the game became physical and intense. Terence Romeo was ejected from the game after getting into a scuffle with Cabagnot and Stockton. Despite Romeo’s absence, the Beermen were able to hold on to their lead.
In the final seconds of the game, Marcio Lassiter hit a three-pointer to give the Beermen a three-point lead. The FiberXers were unable to score on their final possession, and the Beermen won the game 102-99.
The victory sends the Beermen to the semifinals, where they will face the Ginebra Gin Kings.
This was a great series between two evenly matched teams. The FiberXers played their hearts out and gave the Beermen everything they could handle. However, in the end, the experience and talent of the Beermen proved to be the difference.
