EJ Anos stunned by Justin Brownlee’s performance in Game 1 of the PBA Semifinals

San Miguel import EJ Anos was left stunned by the performance of Barangay Ginebra import Justin Brownlee in Game 1 of their PBA Semifinals series. Brownlee exploded for 33 points, including five four-point shots, to lead Ginebra to a 118-109 victory.

Anos, who had previously expressed confidence in his ability to stop Brownlee, admitted that he was surprised by the Ginebra import’s outside shooting. “I didn’t expect him to shoot like that,” Anos said. “We were preparing for him to drive to the basket.”

Brownlee’s four-point shots were a major factor in Ginebra’s victory. The Ginebra import made five of seven attempts from beyond the arc, including two four-pointers in the third quarter that helped Ginebra build a double-digit lead.

Anos said that San Miguel would need to make adjustments to their defense in order to stop Brownlee in Game 2. “He’s a very unpredictable player,” Anos said. “He can score from anywhere on the court.”

Brownlee’s performance was not the only highlight of Game 1. Ginebra’s Stephen Holt also had a strong game, finishing with 30 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Holt was particularly effective at defending San Miguel’s import, Arwind Santos.

Ginebra now leads the series 1-0. Game 2 is scheduled for October 12.
