Michele Gumabao proved you can mix sports with pageantry.

The Creamline Cool Smashers ace was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Globe in 2018. Two years later, she finished 2nd runner-up in Miss Universe Philippines.

Her feat has paved the way for more sports personalities to venture into beauty pageants. In fact, some of them have cracked the Top 40 of Miss Universe Philippines 2023.

Mary Angelique Manto

Manto is a TV host and model. But she’s more popularly known as UST’s courtside reporter in the UAAP for a couple of seasons. Remember her spiel, “Ibalik ang korona sa España”?

But it’s not actually the first time the “aesthetic queen” joined a pageant. In fact, in 2014, she won Mutya Ning Kapampangan. During her time in UST, she was also the 2nd runner-up in the university-wide competition TSITP.

Alexandra Bollier

Like Gumabao, Bollier is a volleyball player who used to be a libero for the Sta. Lucia Realtors in the Philippine Superliga (PSL).

The Filipino-American, whose mother traces her roots to Imus, Cavite, has now dipped her toes into pageantry and made the Top 40 of this year’s Miss Universe Philippines (MUPh).

Mary Joy Dacoron

The Former Cignal HD Spiker is not part of MUPh’s 40. But recently, the former Adamson Lady Falcon made waves after Binibining Pilipinas announced Dacoron was part of the Top 40 candidates this year.

We’re sure plenty of fans will be interested to see how Dacoron fares in arguably one of the country’s most prestigious pageants.
