The game began with a stunning moment from RJ Abarrientos, who delivered a miraculous no-look shot that set the tone for Ginebra’s dominant performance. Scotty Thompson followed with an impressive hangtime move, showcasing his athleticism and ability to make plays under pressure. Ginebra took an early lead, starting the game with a 13-3 run, thanks to contributions from all their starting players.

Phoenix, however, was not ready to back down. Rookie Kay Balungay provided a spark for the team with a fast-break slam dunk, leading Phoenix on a 6-0 run in the second quarter. But Ginebra quickly responded, with Japeth Aguilar making a powerful statement by throwing down a slam dunk of his own, showing the rookie that he could match his intensity. Ginebra’s offense continued to fire on all cylinders, with notable performances from Aguilar, Thompson, and Stephen H, allowing them to extend their lead to 16 points by halftime.

In the third quarter, Ginebra’s offense became unstoppable. The team extended their lead to 20 points early in the quarter. Despite Phoenix’s efforts, led by Jason Perkins who made three straight field goals, Ginebra always had an answer. RJ Abarrientos and Justin Brownlee stepped up to ensure that Phoenix could not close the gap.

As the fourth quarter unfolded, Ginebra maintained their commanding lead, with Abarrientos dazzling the crowd with his ball-handling skills. Despite some frustrations on the Phoenix side, including a travel call on Brownlee that led to complaints from Coach Tim Cone, the Fuel Masters were unable to mount a significant comeback. Ginebra comfortably closed out the game with a final score of 90-75, cementing their place in the PBA quarterfinals.

For Phoenix, the loss marked the end of their playoff hopes. Their inability to overcome Ginebra’s high-powered offense and the constant pressure from key players like Thompson and Aguilar sealed their fate.

With this win, Barangay Ginebra moves on to the next stage of the tournament, demonstrating their potential to go even further with their star-studded roster. Phoenix, on the other hand, will have to regroup and focus on next season after a disappointing elimination.
