The NBA star, 36, will be on small screens everywhere later this summer when his new Peacock series, Mr. Throwback, premieres on Aug. 8.
The comedy series — which also stars Adam Pally, Ayden Mayeri and Saturday Night Live’s Ego Nwodim — follows basketball prodigy turned struggling memorabilia salesman Danny Grossman (Pally) who seeks redemption by reuniting with his middle-school teammate, Curry.

Curry — who is also an executive producer of the series alongside creator David Caspe and writers Matthew Libman and Daniel Libman — said in a statement that he is “honored to have joined the hilarious Adam, Ego, Ayden,” as well as the producing team.
“I was excited to step into the world of scripted comedy with Mr. Throwback, a story with love for family and friends at its center,” Curry said in a statement.
The Golden State Warriors point guard also promises the version of himself he is playing in Mr. Throwback will look a little different from his real-life persona.
“I’m looking forward to viewers getting to see me play a version of myself no one has ever seen before, and hope they feel connected to the characters and the dilemmas they face throughout the series,” he continued.
In the official trailer for Mr. Throwback, which was released on Wednesday, July 24, Curry previews the unique “version” of himself — plus, some of the laughs to come.
“This is a story of one of the most dominant basketball players of all time,” Curry says in the extended preview. “A player so electrifying, so beloved on and off the court … I’m not talking about me. I’m talking about Danny Grossman,” the athlete clarifies as Pally appears on camera and embraces him.
The trailer then shows throwback footage of a young Grossman and Curry playing basketball together as the latter reveals that his teammate-turned-salesman used to be “the king” of the court. “We called ourselves the ‘Splash Siblings,’ ” Curry says. “Danny was so good. I was his backup. Danny was so cool. I was his friend.”

Mr. Throwback appears to follow the creation of a documentary initially centered on Curry that changes direction to follow Grossman — much to the dismay of its creators. “Somehow I went from following a once-in-a-generation talent/humanitarian changing his sport and the world to following…” one of the filmmakers says, trailing off as Grossman runs behind them.
As for the documentary’s contents, Nwodim teases in a voiceover: “People love a redemption story. But you know what people love even more? A train wreck.”
Mr. Throwback premieres Aug. 8 on Peacock.
