As the game progressed, the teams exchanged leads with impressive basket trades. Hawkins tried to counter the offensive onslaught with two consecutive baskets, but Sotto’s relentless attacks kept the Alpas in contention. Despite a challenging second quarter where Sotto picked up his third foul, his team managed to secure a nine-point lead at one stage, only for Shibuya to reduce it to four points by the end of the first half with a score of 44-38.

The third quarter was pivotal for the Alpas, with Sotto making an immediate impact once reintroduced. His reverse baseline moves and solid rebounding helped the team regain and extend their lead. However, another foul saw him benched early, yet his team maintained a 10-point lead by the quarter’s end.

The final quarter remained tightly contested. Shibuya, spearheaded by Hawkins, clawed back into the game, erasing a three-point deficit to tie the game in the final minute. The drama peaked when Koto, a Shibuya player, was fouled out after a physical tussle under the basket. The game moved to overtime after Shibuya missed a potential game-winning basket.

In overtime, Shibuya took the lead, capitalizing on their momentum shift. Despite attempts by Koshigaya Alpas to rally back, time was not on their side, and Shibuya emerged victorious. Kai Sotto, despite the loss, had a remarkable game, finishing with 10 points, seven rebounds, and a block.

The Emperor’s Cup continues to be a stage for both professional and amateur teams across Japan to showcase their talent, with Sotto proving yet again why he is one of the most promising basketball talents in Asia.
