Warriors Star Steph Curry May Play in Different Uniform This Season
The Golden State Warriors just signed Stephen Curry to a max extension, but that doesn’t mean the franchise can just sit back and relax.
Curry is now under contract through the 2026-27 campaign after adding one year worth $62.6 million to his current deal. The Dubs superstar point guard will play most of that season at the age of 38.
And while ESPN insider Brian Windhorst said on the August 30 episode of “First Take” that Curry’s signature on that agreement is a vote of confidence in the direction of the franchise, Windhorst also said Curry becomes a likely trade candidate this winter if the Warriors can’t land a superstar sidekick before then.
“If they don’t find a deal there, I think he becomes a high probability of being traded this season,” Windhorst said.
“Why couldn’t they get Paul George?” Smith posited. “Why can’t they get another superstar to pair with Steph Curry? Especially in the aftermath of Kevin Durant’s departure?”
Golden State not only struck out on a sign-and-trade for George this offseason, but also on a potential deal for Lauri Markkanen of the Utah Jazz.
Clearly, both Curry and the Warriors believe in the organization and its head coach — at least for now. But the finish line to Curry’s career is approaching on the horizon, and neither side has time to waste.
As such, if Golden State can’t get the ball rolling toward a championship soon, a parting of ways could develop into a possibility.
