Golden State Warriors Eye Potential Trades: Could Brandon Ingram Be the Missing Piece?
The Golden State Warriors are gearing up for another playoff push, and as the offseason progresses, the team is exploring key trades to bolster its roster. With Stephen Curry secured for the long haul, the Warriors are setting their sights on a strong supporting cast that could propel them to the Western Conference Finals and beyond.

Stephen Curry’s Contract Extension: A Sign of Stability
One of the most significant moves of the offseason was the extension of Stephen Curry’s contract. The Warriors star has agreed to a one-year extension worth $62.6 million, which will keep him with the franchise through the 2026-27 season. This extension provides a sense of stability for both the team and its general manager, Mike Dunleavy. Curry’s long-term commitment reassures Dunleavy that there is no immediate pressure to make a “win-now” move solely to appease his star player.
Warriors’ Trade Targets: Big Names Linked to Golden State
As the Warriors look to optimize their roster around Curry, the front office has been linked to several marquee players. Early in the offseason, names like Paul George and Lauri Markkanen were floated as potential targets. More recently, rumors have circulated about the Warriors’ interest in acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo or Jimmy Butler. However, these blockbuster moves are unlikely to happen until after the 2023-2024 season.
In the short term, Golden State is focusing on finding a running mate for Curry who can help shoulder the scoring load and elevate the team’s offensive potential. One player that fits the bill is Brandon Ingram of the New Orleans Pelicans.
Brandon Ingram’s Contract Stalemate
Brandon Ingram has been at the center of trade discussions this offseason, largely due to a contract dispute with the Pelicans. Ingram, who averaged 23.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.0 assists from the 2019-2023 seasons, is seeking a $200 million-plus extension. However, the Pelicans have been reluctant to offer such a deal, especially considering his disappointing playoff performance last season.
Ingram’s versatility as a scorer and playmaker makes him an attractive option for many teams, including the Warriors. Standing 6’8″ with a 7’3″ wingspan, Ingram has the physical tools to be a force on both ends of the court. His ability to operate in the mid-range and his solid playmaking skills would fit seamlessly alongside Curry and Draymond Green, offering the Warriors another offensive threat.
Trade Possibilities: Ingram for Kuminga and Looney?
A potential trade between the Warriors and Pelicans could involve the Warriors sending Jonathan Kuminga and Kevon Looney to New Orleans in exchange for Ingram. Kuminga, a 21-year-old rising talent, may be a more suitable fit for the Pelicans’ long-term plans, especially if paired with Zion Williamson in a young and dynamic frontcourt. Looney, though undersized at 6’9″, has proven himself as a reliable big man during his time with Golden State and could help fill the Pelicans’ need for a center.
For the Warriors, adding Ingram would provide a significant scoring upgrade, particularly in the role currently held by Andrew Wiggins. With Ingram’s scoring ability and Curry’s elite three-point shooting, the Warriors would have one of the most potent offenses in the league.
A Win-Win Trade for Both Teams?
This potential trade could be mutually beneficial for both franchises. The Warriors would gain a dynamic scorer who could take on some of Curry’s offensive burden, while the Pelicans would receive young assets and a veteran presence in Wiggins. This could help the Pelicans develop their young core while remaining competitive in the Western Conference.
As the offseason unfolds, the Warriors’ front office will need to decide whether to pull the trigger on a deal that could reshape their roster. With Curry locked in and the Western Conference as competitive as ever, a bold move for a player like Brandon Ingram could be the key to Golden State’s next championship run.
