If I were to adopt a different identity, like that of a Hindu, I could have named him ‘Alexander’ or ‘Ram,’ but I didn’t. I wanted a good Muslim name.”
The actor emphasized that he and Kareena chose the name because they wanted to raise their son with values of secularism, love, and respect for everyone. He said, “I want my son to grow up with good secular values, where he learns to love and respect everyone. We didn’t choose the name Taimur because it symbolizes violence. The past cannot be judged through today’s lens. Names don’t define who a person is. Ashoka was also a warrior, and so was Alexander.”
Saif further elaborated on his decision, revealing that he and Kareena chose the name because it was a family name with historical significance, not because of any violent connotations. “It’s a name that has been passed down in my family. I liked the name because it carries a sense of history, and it was a name I admired. I even have a cousin with a similar name, which was a source of inspiration for us.”
Saif’s comments on the matter were candid and reflected his views on secularism and naming traditions in his family. While he understands the concerns raised by some, he maintains that a name should not be judged solely based on historical figures associated with it.
