MANILA (UPDATED) – No signs of exhaustion whatsoever.

Finals-bound Creamline overpowered Farm Fresh, 25-15, 25-13, 25-19, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Following the clearance to play for their home clubs, Alas Pilipinas’ Jema Galanza made her much-anticipated comeback on the PVL taraflex in the game.

On her first match back, the star spiker immediately claimed Player of the Game citation after dropping a game-high 13 points on 11 attacks and two blocks.

Galanza said she was happy to wear the Creamline jersey again.

“Siyempre happy po na nakabalik ulit sa Creamline. ‘Yung adjustment naman po siguro hindi naman na sobrang mag-a-adjust kasi palagi naman namin po ginagawa ‘yung trainings namin, ‘yung sistema naman po hindi na bago,” Galanza said during a postgame interview with reporters.

Creamline was dominant in the attacking department, notching 51 spikes on 115 attempts, while Farm Fresh had more attempts with 118, but only hit 31.

Steering that offense was playmaker Kyle Negrito, who had a total of 18 excellent sets when the dust settled.

After the triumph, the Cool Smashers seemed to be ready for their championship match slated on Thursday at the Araneta Coliseum.

They will be facing the winner of Cignal-Kurashiki match scheduled for 6 p.m. later in the day.

Meanwhile, this was the end of the road for the Foxies’ bronze medal aspirations, ending the tourney winless with a 0-4 win-loss card.

Asaka Tamaru paced the defeated Farm Fresh side with 10 points.

MANILA – Now that Alas Pilipinas players were cleared to rejoin their home Premier Volleyball League (PVL) clubs, the Creamline coaching staff will discuss letting superstar Jema Galanza play for the grand slam-seeking squad.

Multi-titled mentor Sherwin Meneses bared this Monday after a four-set victory over Cignal at the Mall of Asia Arena, 25-18, 29-27, 17-25, 25-20, in the 2024 Invitational Conference.

Creamline also clinched a finals berth after the triumph.

“Pagmi-meeting-an pa namin ‘yung about sa mga Alas players. So hopefully, makalaro si Jema kasi siyempre, gustong-gusto na rin maglaro ng bata,” he said.

Meneses said they will decide on Tuesday, in time before their Wednesday bout against the Farm Fresh Foxies at PhilSports Arena.

“Alam ko naman makakatulong siya sa ‘min. Pero siguro bukas, makakapag-decide kami,” he said.

Galanza, a nine-time PVL champion and a former MVP, will be a huge boost for the Cool Smashers, who are seeking their 10th crown a week after ruling the 2024 Reinforced Conference.

On Monday, PVL president Ricky Palou revealed that national team members can now be with their respective teams.

“All the players of Alas have been released as of today. They can join their respective teams. In-announce ni president Tats Suzara that they’re released as of today and they can go and join the PVL games,” he said.

MANILA — Creamline bolstered its bid for a grand slam in the 2024 season of the Premier Volleyball League with an entertaining four-set win over Cignal HD, Monday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Cool Smashers recovered from a blip in the third set to defeat the HD Spikers, 25-18, 29-27, 17-25, 25-20, and secure the first spot in the championship match of the 2024 PVL Invitational Conference.

Already the winners of the All-Filipino and Reinforced Conferences, the Cool Smashers are now just two wins away from a sweep of the Invitational and of all three championships that the PVL has to offer this season.

“Syempre masaya kasi nakabalik ulit kami sa finals so, may chance kami na maka-champion ulit,” Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses said after the match. “About Cignal naman, talagang di rin sila bibitaw talaga hanggang dulo so, happy ako dahil nakuha namin yung panalo ngayon.”

Import Erica Staunton powered the Cool Smashers with 27 points built on 25 kills, while Michele Gumabao added 19 points and Reinforced Conference MVP Bernadeth Pons had a triple-double of 15 points, 17 digs, and 20 receptions.

The Cool Smashers withstood a 35-point explosion from Cignal HD import MJ Perez, with Ces Molina adding 19 points.

After a comfortable win in the opener, Creamline was pushed to the brink in the second set, with Perez keeping the HD Spikers in the hunt. A clutch hit by Staunton finally put them at set point, 28-27, and an attack error by Perez gave the Cool Smashers a 2-0 advantage.

Perez’s scoring barrage proved unstoppable in the third frame, but Creamline regrouped in Set 4 with Pons delivering some crucial hits. They ultimately pounced on attack errors by Roselyn Doria and Perez to secure the victory.

As a team, the HD Spikers committed 23 unforced errors. It was their first loss of the conference after winning their first two assignments. Nonetheless, they still have a chance to make it to the finals should they beat defending champion Kurashiki Ablaze in their match on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena.

Creamline will gun for a sweep of the preliminary round against Farm Fresh on the same day.

The one-game final is set on Thursday at the Araneta Coliseum.
