Alyssa Valdez named ‘Most Trusted Sports Personality’ anew
MANILA — Volleyball superstar Alyssa Valdez, the captain of the Creamline Cool Smashers, has once again been named the “Most Trusted Sports Personality” at the Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Awards.
Valdez received the honor on Friday in Pasig City. This is the second straight year that the “Phenom” was recognized with the honor.
“Thank you to Reader’s Digest and to all those who believed in me and who believe in this sport. And thank you so much for recognizing women in sports,” Valdez said as she received the award.
“I hope we can continue to build trust amongst each other although we are from different fields to make a difference to make a difference in society,” she added.
According to Valdez, these kinds of recognitions help defy gender stereotypes and social norms in sports.
“We are thankful dahil talagang nagkakaroon na ng space ang kababaihan sa larangan ng sports,” said the national team standout.

Such an honor comes with responsibilities, which Valdez and her fellow volleyball stars embrace.
“It is such a big responsibility for me and to all the women in sports. I hope they can be an inspiration to the youth. We take it also as a motivation for us to continue pushing our advocacies,” she said.
It is the second major honor that Valdez received in the past week, after being named as a “Flame Awardee” in the inaugural Women in Sports Awards presented by the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Commission for Women.
A two-time UAAP champion and a three-time UAAP Most Valuable Player with the Ateneo de Manila University, Valdez has played for the Rebisco-backed Creamline squad since 2017 and has helped them win seven championships.
