Sisi Rondina and the Choco Mucho Flying Titans tasted defeat for the first time in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference Tuesday night.

The Flying Titans, who had been on a four-game winning start to open the new PVL season, could not pull off a reverse sweep after clawing back from two sets down, falling to the PLDT High Speed Hitters in a cardiac five-set affair.

Rondina, who poured a near triple-double of 25 points, 17 receptions and nine digs, admitted that she struggles to wrap her head around Choco Mucho’s slow start that almost resulted in a straight-set demise.

“Alam ni coach [Dante Alinsunurin] kung gaano ako kainis first two sets pa lang talaga. And ‘di ko alam ano ‘yung nangyari, siguro kahit ako ‘di ako makasagot kasi ano ‘yun eh, kami na lahat ‘yun eh,” Rondina shared.

But if there’s one thing the reigning MVP is sure of, it would be the fact that the High Speed Hitters came prepared and executed their game plan to pull off the stunner.

“Ang dami naming natutunan sa PLDT and ‘yung respeto namin sa kanila talaga, mataas talaga, and grabe rin ‘yung scouting nila,” Rondina said.

“And ayon, nung sa fifth set, sabi ko nga, patibayan na ‘to ng loob. Matira matibay ‘to kung sino manalo, siya panalo. And ‘yun na ‘yon. Congrats sa kanila.”

The 5-foot-6 dynamo also pointed out that the Flying Titans had a difficult time containing the Savi Davison-led PLDT offense, even with the reliable floor coverage of Thang Ponce who collected 33 digs and 13 receptions.

The Filipina-Canadian stalwart showcased her vaunted scoring prowess to the tune of 21 points built on 18 attacks and three blocks, giving Choco Mucho fits throughout the match.

“Tsaka ambilis ng plays nila, ‘di namin in-expect talaga. And ah naramdaman namin, may high leaper sila which is si Davison, and dun din sila naka-take advantage ‘di katulad sa amin na wala talaga, hindi namin kaya ‘yon, and kahit anong pilit naming depensahan, wala, bumabagsak talaga,” Rondina said.

As crushing as the loss is, Alinsunurin and his wards believe the setback will serve them in good stead as the season runs its course.

“Kung ano ‘man yung resulta, situational talaga na kailangan naming tanggapin na natalo kami pero sabi ko kailangan lang i-maximize lang natin pagdating sa training ulit kung ano yung naging problema natin,” the seasoned tactician noted.

The Flying Titans are looking to make a quick bounce-back attempt when it plunges back to action on March 23, Saturday against the Akari Chargers.
