MANILA  — Alas Pilipinas reached the podium of Leg 1 of the 2024 SEA V.League after a four-set win over Indonesia, Sunday evening in Vinh Phúc, Vietnam.

The Filipinas overcame a wobble in the second set to snatch a 25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21 triumph — enough to secure the bronze medal.

It was a strong finish for Alas Pilipinas, which dropped their earlier matches to Vietnam and Thailand.

This marks the first time that the women’s national team finished on the podium of the regional meet since back-to-back bronze finishes in its inaugural edition in 2019. They had endured winless campaigns in 2022 and 2023.

National University standout Alyssa Solomon led Alas Pilipinas with 16 points on 14 kills, an attack, and an ace, while Choco Mucho’s Sisi Rondina and Chery Tiggo’s Eya Laure each scored 13 points. Middle blockers Thea Gagate and Fifi Sharma combined for 17 points.

Arsela Nuari Purnama led Indonesia with 22 points.

Alas Pilipinas returns to action in the second leg of the SEA V.League, set for August 9-11 in Thailand.
