Cool Smashers, 2 other teams seek to dominate Pool B

CARRYING 4-1 records in Pool A, Creamline, PLDT and Chery Tiggo look to emerge victorious in its match against the bottom teams of Pool B in Round 2 of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday.

Chery Tiggo aims to overpower Choco Mucho (1-4) with the help of American import Khat Bell, who continuously scored in double digits, and ranks fourth in PVL best scorers after tallying a total of 139 hits.

The struggling Flying Titans need to work on their offense as their main gunner Sisi Rondina is out due to Alas Pilipinas duties.

The clash will begin at 1 p.m.

The heavily favored Creamline showed resilience, despite being undermanned as Tots Carlos (minor injury), Alyssa Valdez (minor injury) and Jema Galanza’s (Alas Pilipinas duties) absence.

Michele Gumabao stepped up for the Cool Smashers and showed grit to overcome its opening-day blues over PLDT en route storming into four straight wins in the conference.

The trio of American imports Erica Staunton, Bernadette Pons, and Gumabao, lifted the Cool Smashers in their previous games.

Facing Petro Gazz (2-3) in the second round of the conference, the Cool Smashers will be put to a test as they will face the trio of PVL All-FIlipino Conference MVP Brooke Van Sickle, import Wilma Salas, and explosive hitter Jonah Sabete.

Petro Gazz fell to the bottom of the standings in Pool B as most of its players were sick during the duration of the first round.

But this time there are no excuses for the team.

“Yeah, we don’t want to say that because we’re sick, we lost. It is what it is. There should be no excuses, and we should work as a team. Of course, we need to be healthy and bounce back stronger from this,” Van Sickle shared her assessment.

Petro Gazz looks to orchestrate a comeback at 3 p.m.

The last match of PVL’s triple header is PLDT and ZUS clash at 5 p.m.

The High Speed Hitters continued to reach greater heights despite Savi Davison’s absence due to her injury.

PLDT’s import Lena Samoilenko flaunted her form in the first round and received some help from Mika Reyes, Majoy Baron, and playmaker Kim Fajardo to reach the top of the standings.

ZUS looks to end its winning drought as Gayle Pascual and import Asaka Tamaru will try to match up PLDT’s hitters.
