MANILA — Barangay Ginebra San Miguel has officially secured their point guard of the future.

The Tim Cone-coached squad officially signed its 2024 PBA Rookie Draft third overall pick RJ Abarrientos to a three-year deal, his agent Edgar Mangahas of EM Sports Management told ABS-CBN News.

Abarrientos is one of the four rookies that the Gin Kings drafted in the recently concluded annual proceedings, along with Paul Garcia, Didat Hanapi, and Paolo Hernandez.

However, Hanapi and Hernandez were already shipped to TerraFirma Dyip for a future second-round pick.

Abarrientos, who recently played for Strong Group Athletics-Philippines in their championship run in the 43rd William Jones Cup, was signed by the Gin Kings to a rookie max deal, Mangahas confirmed.

The former Far Eastern University standout, alongside newly-acquired players Stephen Holt and Isaac Go, are expected to bolster BGSM’s lineup for the upcoming Season 49 Governors’ Cup as they are still dealing with the injuries of Scottie Thompson, Jamie Malonzo, and Jeremiah Gray.
