Following Choco Mucho’s campaign in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Sisi Rondina will immediately head back into action to represent the Philippines in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Challenge Cup for Women.
Rondina confirmed the news to Tiebreaker Times following the Flying Titans’ Game 2 loss to Creamline in the All-Filipino Conference Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Monday.
The 27-year-old pride of Compostela, Cebu, admitted that it was hard to say no to representing the Philippines. And she promised to make the most out of the opportunity given to her.
“AVC (ang next). Syempre ‘di naman pwedeng tanggihan ‘yon, pero ‘yun nga, Pilipinas na rin ang dadalhin so sulitin na rin,” said Rondina, who is the second player after Jia De Guzman to announce her commitment to the national team.
Rondina, a two-time Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist in beach volleyball, will now make her debut in indoor volleyball for the Nationals.
The AVC Challenge Cup will take place from May 22 to May 29 at the historic Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.
With only nine days left to prepare, Rondina hopes that the team can work seamlessly together and maximize the time they have left to prepare.
“Paghahandaan namin. Sana magka-chemistry agad kami, sana magka-chemistry agad kami nung mga kasama ko,” said Rondina.
The former PVL MVP just led Choco Mucho to its second consecutive finals appearance, where they once again lost to sister squad and defending champion Creamline following a 20-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11 defeat in Game 2.
Rondina delivered 31 points on 28 attacks, two blocks, and one ace to go along with 10 excellent digs.
